“강아지는 장난감이 아니다”
많은 사람들은 강아지를 ‘입양’한다기 보다는 ‘구매’한다. 그저 귀엽고, 우리 집에 한마리 있으면 좋을 것 같고, 그러다 마음에 안들게 되면 내다 버리고, 또 마음에 드는 아이를 구매한다.
강아지가 장난감처럼 사고 버려지는 물건처럼 여겨지는 세태에 대해 비판하기 위해 제작한 그림책으로, ‘강아지’라는 단어는 모두 빈칸 처리를 하고 장난감을 구매하는 것으로 그렸으나,
그것은 모두 '강아지'였던 것으로 독자에게 충격을 주고 싶었다. 강아지는 애완견이 아니다. 당연히 장난감도 아니다. 우리의 반려견이다. 이 책을 읽는 사람들이 불편함을 느끼고, 반성하였으면 한다.
“Dogs are not toys”
Many people ‘buy’ dogs rather than ‘adopt.’ As the reason that's just cute, and wish to have one in their house. If they don't like it, they throw it away and buy another. As a picture book to criticize this situation, the word ‘puppy’ was all hidden with blank and the situations are drawen as buying toys. I wanted to shock the reader that it was all puppy.
This book was made to criticize the situation in which dogs are considered as toys and abandoned objects. A dog is not an object. Of course it's not even a toy. It's our pet dog.
I want people who read this book to feel uncomfortable and reflect on themselves.
